I want to crushed the old traditional Pilipina myth 50 year old women thought, that they can’t be athletic anymore…we are the new 30’s-40s and everything is just a mind set! Seeing my body transforming into a much more athletic form and gaining strength that I never thought I could have is my new drive. I’m reversing that (old) mindset to (become the) highest level I can be and (will prove) it by sharing any accomplishment I get from here on.” – Jhoe Pinkston in an email to me.
I remember her first day. She was so nervous but SO excited. She came in with a goal to do a Spartan Race. Every week she came to practice the obstacles and followed all of Coach David’s careful instruction on how to progress safely through them. Now, she has conquered her first Spartan Race and is going to continue to see how strong she can get. She is working diligently on each Spartan Obstacle until she has them all mastered.
My favorite thing about her story is her unstoppable enthusiasm and her genuine care for others. She has a daily appreciation for life and pushes through her own perceived limits.
Look at what you could do in just 4 months! You could be like Jhoe and go from unable to flip the tire, go across monkey bars and pick up a 65 lb atlas ball to conquering all those things and more!
Your goal doesn’t have to be as big as Jhoe’s. Your goal could be doing personal training sessions until you are able to participate in group classes. Your goal could be to do 1 personal training session per week and do active recovery on the other days (we have rowers, assault bikes, and a ski erg!) The important thing is that you have a goal. Start small. 1 cup of vegetables per day, a 20 minute walk every day, etc, and then start adding to your goals. Small successes build confidence and momentum until all of the sudden your successes start multiplying and becoming larger and larger!
Let us know if you need some help goal setting. We are here for you 🙂

Here’s the email from Jhoe which prompted me to make a video on her 🙂
Good Morning Julie,
What a way to wake up and run into your encouraging email. I’m very much honored to share my experience with your amazing ultimate athletic center…Camp Rhino! 😉
Anyhow, the reason why I joined your program is because I signed up for a Spartan Race and I googled the best place to train for it in Vegas and your place is the best highly recommended. I’ve always wanted to do this race as my bucket list before I turn 51 this March and I’m so glad that I joined in with your kick-ass team and your place it’s just the best there is!
I love your place, it’s absolutely empowering to bring out the person I’ve always wanted to be. It’s an absolute Grown-up playground! That transformed me Physically and mentally. Before signing-up I couldn’t flip a big-ass tire go over a monkey bar and pick up 65 pounds Atlas ball and there’s so much more I want to do…it’s addictive. I honestly want my future backyard converted into your place 😂
I’m currently working with Dave’s amazing detailed step by step process of overcoming all Spartan Sprint obstacles. There’s about 5 out of 20 that I need to really work hard. It’s my new bucket list. Climbing the Rope, The Rig, and so on I’m running out of time but I’m confident that by continuing to come and train as much as I can I will conquer them all maybe not on my first race but the next I will!
Seeing my body transforming into a much more athletic form and gaining strength that I never thought I could have is my new drive. I want to crushed the old traditional Pilipina myth 50 year old women thought, that they can’t be athletic anymore…we are the new 30’s-40s and everything is just a mind set! I’m reversing that mindset to a highest level I can be and proved it by sharing any accomplishment I get from here on forward 😉
Lastly, I thank you and your awesome staff from the bottom of my heart you guys are simply the best! Have a Kick-ass day!
