HYROX is a finely balanced test of endurance, strength, and grit. At Camp Rhino, our HYROX classes cover a ton, here’s how to add the right running training to transform your performance on race day.

Here’s what top coaches, athletes, and training programs recommend for a smart supplemental running regimen:

The Three Pillars of HYROX Running Training

1. Speed & Tempo Work (this is covered in our HYROX classes!)

  • Interval Sessions: Hit short segments faster than your steady pace, with full walking recovery. These improve speed endurance and running economy.

  • Tempo Runs / Threshold Training: Maintain near-race pace for longer stretches to raise your lactate threshold.

2. Aerobic Endurance (This you’ll need to do on your own)

  • Easy (Zone 2) Runs: Keep your long runs slow and steady to grow your aerobic engine and facilitate recovery.

  • Long Runs: M

  • ix 5–10 km runs on non-HYROX days to progressively strengthen your endurance.

3. Power & Specificity, Practice Under Fatigue (Also covered in our HYROX classes!)

  • Compromised Running Simulations: Combine run segments with functional movements like burpees, sled pushes, or lunges immediately after running.
