She and I had met for the first time just three weeks earlier. Her 6 Week Challenge was in full swing, and we had scheduled a phone call to check in. When I asked what was going well so far, she took a deep breath and shared with me an extremely empowering experience that took place just the week before.

“I have to tell you about this moment the other day at the grocery store. I was at the register and I realized that my entire cart was filled with things that I wasn’t buying a month ago. Not only were all of the foods different, but I was actually excited about them… the Greek yogurt, berries, fresh vegetables and meats. I looked at the cart behind me and saw things that I used to buy all the time… donuts, Cheez-its, Oreos, stuff like that. Then I looked back at my cart. I realized that I didn’t miss ANY of that other stuff!”

To top it all off, she said that when was on her way to her car, she realized that she didn’t even stop to get a pack of cigarettes. Those also used to be a staple in her grocery cart. I remember she talked about quitting smoking when we first met, but I wasn’t going to press the issue since the nutrition was our focal point. This, for her, was just a fringe benefit.

She had experienced a moment of clarity that I hope all of my clients are able to achieve. It’s the moment when you stop wanting and craving all of the things that you used to believe you couldn’t live without.

Truly caring for our bodies with food and with exercise at first can seem like a daunting task. What we are doing now seems so much easier… why would we want to complicate things by adding in a few hours of exercise each week, or meal preparation?

The truth is, you don’t know how good you can feel until you give yourself the opportunity to really commit to a change. But the steps to get to this moment of clarity look different for all of us… and this is a beautiful thing. Not everyone needs to go from eating one meal a day to preparing lunches for an entire week. We don’t all have to eat the same types of foods and do the same workouts to get results.

The one-size-fits-all approach to becoming healthier is truly a thing of the past. We know better now. In order to help you succeed, we need to start with where you are now, and take manageable steps to get you were you want to go. Customized nutrition is truly the answer in any scenario.

Sitting down with someone who cares about your success makes all the difference. It’s important to consider what you’re doing right now, your current habits, foods that you like and dislike, your work schedule and exercise routine in order to come up with a plan that will help you to feel successful. That’s what we do here at Camp Rhino – let us guide you on your journey to your healthiest, happiest self!
